Dear Editor,
We have lived in the Hamilton area of Richmond for the last four years. I grew up in Richmond and have noticed over the years how bad traffic is.
But the drivers in the Hamilton area especially along Westminster Highway and River Road are the worst I have ever seen. There’s no acknowledgement that even though they are busy roads, they are still residential.
River Road has a 50 km/h sign clearly posted near the houses, but drivers are constantly speeding and passing on double lines. And clearly, they have no respect for pedestrians or cyclists on the road.
Very rarely do you see police in these areas. If they want to crack down on dangerous drivers, speeders, texters, etc., they need to have a presence in these areas, because, right now, Hamilton feels like a lawless, forgotten community and pedestrians are in fear for their safety.
I know I am.
