Dear Editor,
Re: “Bernier put on hot seat,” Richmond News, March 15.
Go Parents Go!
Thank you Kim Nowitsky and other Richmond parents for taking the time to confront Minister Mike Bernier! With word about his visit coming at the 11th hour, I wasn’t able to attend, but I was with you whole-heartedly in spirit.
After the past couple of years, with the teachers’ strike and with school closures on the table, I echo the sentiment of most parents in Richmond. This funding announcement is too little too late.
The announcement came as our underwhelming MLAs needed a boost in public image, which I was thrilled to read was thwarted by this dedicated parent group. This announcement is nothing to celebrate and doesn’t make up for years and years of being ignored in Richmond.
The Liberal government’s track record here speaks for itself. How is it that our schools buildings have been left to deteriorate so that half of them are now high risk? And now the school board is projecting a $10.5 million deficit!
It’s about time Richmond found its voice.
