Dear Editor,

Re: “Dangerous e-biking in Richmond,” News online, July 22.

In the morning of July 25, my wife and I were walking southbound on Gilbert Road. A young man riding an e-scooter traveling northbound on the sidewalk almost hit me head on. While cruising at over 20 km/hr, he never even attempted to slow down when he approached us on the narrow sidewalk.

If we had collided, both of us may have gotten seriously injured, as this young man didn’t even have a helmet on. I have seen this same young man riding either an e-scooter or an e-bike on the same sidewalk without helmet multiple times.

At one point, I told him that he cannot ride an e-bike or e-scooter on the sidewalk. While some users of these ‘e-vehicles’ do need better education on our traffic bylaws, this young man certainly is not in that category.
