Dear Editor,
Re: “Thief caught 10 minutes after taking bait bike,” News, Sept. 29
Are there no bigger or more serious crimes in Richmond that the RCMP could spend their time on than bike theft?
I moved to Richmond a year ago and have, without exaggeration, been nearly T-boned 11 times at intersections when cars dangerously and selfishly advance through intersections after the light has gone red.
On one such occasion, an RCMP cruiser was there at the same intersection and did nothing.
I have, on a weekly basis, been nearly killed crossing the street by drivers who refuse to stop at pedestrian crossings with flashing lights ablaze.
I have only twice ever seen a driver pulled over for a traffic infraction, yet I see driver after driver running red lights, driving dangerously and blatantly using cell phones.
This also speaks to the exorbatant insurance premiums we are forced to pay in B.C.
My rates are double what I paid in Alberta and 25 per cent more than what I paid in Ontatio.
A crackdown on the poor drivers here, as well as the re-privitization of insurance, would make a huge difference in making it affordable and saving good drivers from having to pay for the sins of others.
