Letter: Don't be a ciggy-butt brain

Dear Editor,

Re: “Richmond teenagers storming ahead,” News, June 1.

I have just been to Alaska on a cruise and saw the article in my local paper. The people of Alaska are way ahead of us as in all the places we called at. I noticed that on most of the lamp posts there was a cigarette butt box. It hung just above waist level, was not that big and had four holes to put your butts into. Below was a sign that said in big letters that if you are seen dropping a butt you will be fined $500 each time!

What an invention and so easy to use. As these places, such as Ketchikan where during the summer cruise season they have 18 large ships a week with 48,146 passengers, they have a huge problem and seem now to be working on the reduction of butts. Can these Palmer students look into this? Saves reinventing the wheel.
