Dear Editor,
Re: “Brush with bus bruises cyclist’s pedal power,” News, June 3
It is fortunate that cyclist Stanley Hsu received only minor injuries when cut off by a bus on Garden City between Bridgeport and Sea Island Way the other day. The area is very dangerous for cyclists.
Vancouver and Richmond cyclists are lucky to have the Canada Line bridge, built with financial assistance of the federal, provincial governments and YVR as a way of getting from one city to the other. On the other side of the bridge, Vancouver has three safe bike lanes on Heather, Cambie and Ontario Streets that allow cyclists to travel from the bridge further into the city. In Richmond, there are none.
It has been more than six years that the Canada Line Bridge has been operational and cyclists still have to risk the unsafe condition of the bike lane on Garden City/Great Canadian Way disappearing at one of the busiest intersections in the city. The same is true at No. 3 Road. It is time for our city to emulate Vancouver and make the passage from the bridge to the city safe for cyclists.
