Letter: Chopping trees is owner's right

Dear Editor, With respect, I’m having a hard time understanding the outcry over Richmond’s trees. A comparison of the canopy from 1960, when we arrived here, and today must surely demonstrate a huge increase in trees throughout the community.
Trees cut down
Often, trees are the victim of building larger, newer homes

Dear Editor,

With respect, I’m having a hard time understanding the outcry over Richmond’s trees.

A comparison of the canopy from 1960, when we arrived here, and today must surely demonstrate a huge increase in trees throughout the community.

Early subdivision residents and tree lovers, like ourselves, planted far too many on our properties, often too close to our houses, resulting in problems of invasive roots near foundations, excessive leaves in gutters and decrease in light.

I support the preservation of healthy old trees on public property, but suggest private property owners should be free to remove trees as they see necessary.
