Richmond RCMP's Sgt. Ted Lewko and Acting Cpl. Adriana Peralta want local residents to come meet them and fellow officers for an informal chat over a cup of coffee

Dear Editor,

Re: “Arresting coffee dates,” Voices, Jan. 25.

First of all, let me commend you and your staff for making the once-a-week issue of the Richmond News more attractive and comprehensive.

Second, I enjoyed reading your editorial comments, particularly the last one about a great initiative by our local police force. Coffee with a Cop gives our police officers and the public a chance to share their concerns.

Third, you commended our former police chief Ward Clapham for his positive ticketing program. I had an opportunity to bring our community perspective to Ward and work with him for a number of years. He was always very receptive to any suggestions from the community.

In addition to the positive tickets, Supt. Clapham also was a strong advocate for restorative justice and many other initiatives, including the creation of RCMP’s Multicultural Advisory Committee. His successor, Renny Nesset, also did a great job in serving this community. Our present officer-in-charge of the Richmond RCMP, Supt. Will Ng is also a very dedicated officer. Richmond is very fortunate to have its police chiefs of such a high caliber.

Finally, Coffee with a Cop is a great initiative. I will definitely have a cup of coffee with our police officers soon.
