Dear Editor,
It is time to set the record straight and for all parties concerned to stop misleading the public into believing that there is a boardwalk along the Fraser River fronting on the Imperial Landing development site.
There simply is no boardwalk and the developer has never built one. There is a massive, ugly slab of concrete that extends the full length of the development.
This slab was badly cracked during construction and was subsequently replaced — only to crack again. The slab is sitting/floating on river bank material and is not an integral part of the site foundations.
The slab will continue to crack as there is nothing solid to support it. This reflects shoddy workmanship on what is advertised as a very upmarket development.
To the east of Imperial Landing there is a true boardwalk all the way to the Chinese bunkhouse. Steveston, as a fishing village, had many boardwalks during its early days.
Boardwalks are famous all over the world. They have historic meaning with romantic and nostalgic overtones. Sadly, the Imperial Landing development has ignored this.
