Letter: Alas, the Richmond I knew is gone...and so am I

Dear Editor,

My husband — who was born and raised in Richmond —  and I have lived in the Broadmoor neighbourhood for 25 years.

We have endured being completely boxed in by the mega mansions.

We have watched our neighborhood change from a little community, to not knowing your neighbours, who, for the most part, don’t live here.

Last year, our neighbour returned from overseas for three weeks and had a perfectly healthy birch tree cut down. Why?

I am from England originally, where, if you wanted to put up as much as a garden shed, you would need permission from the local city and all your neighbours! Not here. We cannot stand it anymore.

We have sold our house and are moving to Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast, which has a community feel about it, not unlike Richmond 10 years ago. I cannot believe we have a city council that would allow all this building to the edges of your property, and sky high above.

We have lost forever the community feel of Richmond. So sad.

Another local Richmond lad and his wife...moving away.
