I am writing in reference to the work Onni has undertaken on Bayview Street.
I have noticed a siltation fence was not in place and, while the truck wheel wash probably meets basic requirements, both do a poor job at containing the silt from the site and into the street.
Furthermore, this contractor keeps working during heavy rains, making matters worse. This leaves Bayview Street with a thick slurry that spreads to surrounding streets since there is no daily cleaning. It becomes a hazard to pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles. Parked vehicles are in filthy condition. All this silt ends up in our municipal storm system and, of course, in the Fraser. If I am correct, this is against provincial, municipal and Fisheries Canada bylaws.
There is also soil densification work in progress. Since we have a high water table level in the area, I am concerned the augers done by the process will disturb the water table and redirect it in unwanted areas such as surrounding underground parkades and foundations, further eroding the sensitive subsoil conditions in place and causing unwanted damage.
Another matter of concern is the security of the site after hours and weekends. The neighbourhood has a high density of young families with children and teens. By having the site ill-secured, it may become dangerous for anyone who ventures on this open site.
