Give street racers a track

Unless every vehicle on the road has the authority to pull over street racers, or introduce the stiffest of penalties, there will always be someone with a powerful vehicle at the light with another provoking a challenge.

If you really want to curb street racing, there should be some race tracks built somewhere near airports or industrial areas, allowing drivers to take their vehicles all out. When a driver purchases a vehicle having 600 horsepower at any age, they have the urge to "step on it" once in a while.

In Ontario, just north of Toronto, there is such a track where you can get educated in handling, speed and where members must wear a helmet and sign a waiver. The track is built on flat lands allowing the vehicle to spin out over grass as opposed to hitting a barrier.

As this track has curves, all you really need is a simple straight-a-way, giving some drivers a place to challenge, have fun with the adrenalin build up of speed, and at least it won't be on the streets where families are at risk.

My best friend was standing at a light waiting to cross when a young driver in his father's sports car lost control and slammed into him. My friend was 34 when killed, leaving behind two young children.

If you build it, they will come. I am certain it will be a hit with drivers of all ages. I know I will be there in a heartbeat in my minivan.
