The Editor,

Re: Gateways new director plans to target Richmonds Asian connection, News, Feb. 3.

I greatly enjoyed the chance to speak with the News last week.

As I read the interview, what came through clearly was my excitement about joining Gateway and continuing to work with Richmonds Asian community.

Other comments didnt appear that I think are important, particularly those about my anticipation in meeting Gateways current subscribers and patrons; those people who have such interest and energy invested in their theatre.

Its my intention that Gateway continue to be a gathering place that invites and welcomes all, and excludes no-one. Its important for everyone to hear my promise to respect the things about Gateway that they love. As a curator, Im excited to program Gateways two distinct spaces one for shows with broader appeal and one to foster innovation; as a dramaturg, I am keen on working with writers in SceneFirst; and as a teacher, Im delighted Gateway has an Academy.

My entire theatre career has been dedicated to reaching across diverse communities, building partnerships and forging relationships. Diversity means more to me than just cultural diversity; it means diversity of discipline, of geography, and of theatrical style. I hope that my diverse experiences can help you discover new things to love at the amazing Gateway.
