Enough with luxury condos

Mayor Malcolm Brodie says Richmond's immediate priorities include pursuing an aggressive affordable-housing strategy.

Then let's see rental buildings and condos built with "good enough" plain floors and inexpensive arborite counters instead of Berber carpets and granite counters.

Plus, let's see more granny flats and coach houses. I can't bear to see one more "luxury" condo development ad that doesn't even mention price in the paper.

As J.P. Morgan said, "If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it."

For years, I've listened to politicians promise more affordable housing (defined by the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corp. as no more than one third of one's income), while unaffordability increases.
