Enjoy Earth, don't renovate it

The Editor,

Remember those wonderful winter days when people would lineup to see the long-eared owls along the west dyke at Terra Nova. Then the city mowed down the cover trees and shrubs for all the birds and animals along the dyke. No more long-eared owls.

Remember when the great horned owls nested in the last forest area of Terra Nova. Then the city moved to remove at least five houses and the horse barns, to replace the area with gardens and a water pond. No more great horned owls.

Remember when the Cooper's hawks nested in the last forest area until gardens and greenhouses were built all around those trees. Cooper's hawks be gone.

Finally, the city allowed artificial nest boxes to be installed for barn owls to nest in; because what did they have left to nest in? Then the city decided that a play area was needed for people to drive their children to. That would enable them to enjoy a "natural area" and a parking lot was planned for the parents to park in. What natural area?

Finally, the city allowed a very large house to be built to shade the gardens, forest area, and planned nature house. No more wonderful garlic.

We only have one Earth, so let's do our best to help it out. What a wonderful planning committee we have in the City of Richmond. Let's all give them a great round of applause and let's elect them the next time round.

They surely deserve it.
