It was reported that there are currently 50 million empty condos and untold numbers of unfinished apartment buildings in China.
The situation suggests China will have some significant social and economic problems to face.
Of course, we in Richmond can easily relate to this situation, albeit on a smaller scale. The continuing proliferation of apartment blocks in our city core that remain half-occupied provides clear evidence that we have been all too willing to walk down the same path and make the same mistakes.
The important question is whether or not we will be able to avoid the same inevitable consequences.
