The Editor,
The airport fuel company wants to bring tankers of poisonous fuel into the mouth of the greatest salmon river in the world.
And the environmental watchdog would be Port Metro Vancouver, whose chief executive dismisses food security as an emotional issue.
In a view that scorns food, an essential for survival, the ecological health of the estuary would seem trivial.
Were told that abandoning the airports safer fuel-supply system instead of upgrading it would save money through more competition.
However, the airport could instead cut costs with a long-term upgrade deal with its current suppliers, who have much to lose or gain.
In any case, money is a means to quality of life, not a higher value.
