Column: Celebrating B.C. Wine Month

April is B.C. Wine Month and this is an opportunity to host a virtual wine dinner with a group of your friends.
B.C. wine month
April is B.C. Wine Month, so let's share the love for B.C. wines.

April is B.C. Wine Month and this is an opportunity to host a virtual wine dinner with a group of your friends. You get to enjoy the company of your friends and family, share each other’s culinary talents and choice of BC wine, and have an opportunity to win one of two fall wine getaways in the Okanagan.

If you find yourself feeling isolated from friends but with lots of time on your hands, take this challenge. But first choose one of the online platforms that will allow you to interact with your guests: Zoom, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, or Skype.

Then choose specific B.C. wineries that are associated with the Okanagan Wine Festivals.

You can pick wines from one winery or a variety of wineries. Visit your local VQA wine store, other private stores, the B.C. government liquor stores or order direct from the winery. You will have to order a case, but it can have different wines from that winery.

Next you’ll want to invite your guests and arrange a date and time. The deadline is April 30th so you need to act quickly!

After that, choose a format. Will you present all the courses and all the wines and your guests will just watch and interact like an audience? Consider emailing a food and wine menu and perhaps recipes for the dishes you have prepared.

Or will you make your event more interactive where different guests will prepare different course and choose their wine? Let your creative juices, like the wine, flow!

Post a photo of your Virtual Okanagan Wine Dinner with friends and family and tag your friends at the dinner with the eligible B.C. wines you enjoyed on either Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. The photo should include a B.C. wine from one of the member wineries.
