Column: Whistler’s Cornucopia Has Much More!

Last week I described the many Signature Tastings during this 11-day Cornucopia Festival. But there are also gourmet wine lunches and dinners, and tasty seminars to enjoy: Thursday, Nov. 7: Araxi Restaurant’s Intimate Wine Dinner with Time Winery.

Thursday, Nov. 7: Araxi Restaurant’s Intimate Wine Dinner with Time Winery. 6 – 10 pm. for $139.

Graham Pierce, Time Winery’s Director of Winemaking, pours a wide range of his superb wines to match Araxi Restaurant and Oyster Bar’s legendary west coast cuisine.

Friday, Nov. 8: The Corridor with Yew +  Sidecut. 6 – 10 p.m. for $155.

Welcome aboard a wine and dine journey from the Pacific Ocean, to Maple Ridge, Howe Sound, and to Pemberton, Cache Creek, and Lillooet. Yew Seafood joins forces with Sidecut Modern Steak Restaurant and Lillooet’s Fort Berens Winery.

Friday, Nov. 8: Quattro at Whistler Wine Dinner Featuring Rocca Delle Macie. 6:30 – 9 p.m. for $211.20.

In the mood for a memorable four course wine dinner? The elegant wines from this renowned Tuscan Producer are paired with the creations of Chef Jeremie Trottier.

Saturday, Nov. 09:The Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre (SLCC) presents Spo7ez Table. 1 - 3 p.m. for $106.79.

There’s more to Indigenous cuisine than salmon and bannock, and Chef Darcy Demoe’s menu is the first step in sharing that news. Enjoy an intimate First Nations experience featuring a multi-course luncheon paired with wines by Indigenous World Wines and Fort Berens Estate Winery. Cultural Ambassadors will share songs and storytelling throughout.

Saturday Nov. 9: Edible Canada with Tinhorn Creek. 12 – 2:30 p.m. for $133.

Edible Canada presents an altitude-based lunch featuring Chef Albert Tran’s angle on products ranging from Ocean Wise seafood from the Pacific to vegetables grown in the mountains of our bountiful lands. Celebrate BC's cuisine and ingredients at their finest along with Tinhorn Creek’s delicious wines.

Saturday Nov 9:Wine & Junk Food Reloaded. 2:30 - 4 p.m. for $52.

This seminar is all about guilty pleasures where you pair wine with the crunchy, salty, sweet, and sticky objects you love. Rachelle Goudreau shares her knowledge about wine and junk food pairings, as part of a tasting your dentist will appreciate.

Saturday Nov. 9: New California Beyond Napa. 5 - 6:30 p.m. for $43.

Although Napa is often in the limelight for American wine culture, a wide range of styles and regions in California remain relatively undiscovered. Maude Renaud-Brisson and Jenna Briscoe explore lesser-known regions including cooler regions such as Sonoma Coast and Carneros as well as arid inland Lodi. 

Sunday, Nov. 10: Bourbon & Cheese. 5 – 6:30 p.m. for $52. Not only is Bourbon a complex spirit, but it’s also is a great match with food. Cheese, in particular, brings out some of Bourbon’s subtle flavours, such as the spirit’s characteristic smokiness. Host Lara Victoria explores the flavour synergies between Bourbon and a range of cheeses from brie to blue to a nice sharp aged cheddar.

Saturday, Nov. 16: Bonjour Pommery, Meet the Shuckers. 10 p.m. - 1 a.m. for $82.60.

The Bearfoot Bistro hosts a night of celebration with Pommery Champagne flowing, oysters shucking, and music adding to this festive event. Join the excitement in the Champagne Lodge. Did we mention the Champagne will flow?

Sunday, Nov. 17: Sherry & Tapas. 2 – 3:30 p.m. for $43.

Sherry has been an essential part of Spanish culture for centuries but this special wine is only now being given its due at some of the great bars and restaurants in major cities around the world. For this casual walkabout seminar, Paul Watkin and Chris Funnell will pour a range of diverse Sherries that you’ll savour with tasty tapas. Find your ultimate Sherry and tapas pairing. Olé!
