If you’ve eaten at the River Rock Casino Resort, you might be familiar with the tremendous selection available at The Buffet. But one of the lesser known eateries at the River Rock Resort is the Curve Lounge. It is one of the hidden gems in Richmond where I love to grab lunch. It is located on the first floor, right behind the hotel reception desk. It is particularly convenient if you are meeting people who are coming from outside of Richmond, as it is right across the bridge, on the Canada Line, and located at a popular landmark. It is usually quiet and you don’t have to pay for parking since you can park in the south garage for free and just walk through the casino to the restaurant.
It looks like a bar so people don’t realize that they also serve food. But the restaurant has quite a large and diverse selection of menu items at reasonable prices.
Recently, I grabbed lunch at the Curve Lounge with Matt Pitcairn, president and CEO of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce and Chuck Keeling, executive vice-president, stakeholder relations and responsible gaming of the Great Canadian Gaming Corp. Matt came from the Chamber’s new offices at #201-13888 Wireless Way in Richmond, and he had no problem finding the place or parking. Matt said that the move to their new offices will give them a bigger office to service the business community of Richmond . I asked Chuck to join us for lunch as he is there often and knows what are the best items on the menu. They are great guys so I was so pleased to have lunch with both of them.
We shared the solo nachos and believe me, it was more nachos than any one person could finish alone. On Chuck’s recommendation, Matt had the Buddha Bowl, which has a house-made miso ginger dressing, avocado, peppers, edamame, broccoli, yam, quinoa, and greens. Great choice if you want something refreshing, healthy and tasty. Chuck had the Prawn Cobb Salad, which was a nice variation on a traditional Cobb Salad without meat. I have been to Curve a few times already so I went with one of my favourites: the Chicken Club Wrap, which has house bacon, avocado, tomato, and blue cheese mayo.
We were all trying to keep lunch light, but on other visits I have also tried the Curve Signature Burger, the Brisket Burger, the Fish and Chips, the Pacific Cod Tacos, the Bombay Chicken Curry and the Spaghetti Bolognese - all of which were really good.
So if you are looking for new spot to have lunch, check out the Curve Lounge.
In each article, I make a wine recommendation. This week, I am going with the Peter Lehmann 2017 The Barossan. Shiraz is a red wine grape variety that many people enjoy because it is very fruity, and almost jammy in taste. This wine doesn’t need much aging or aeration and is ready to drink right away. Peter Lehmann is a very well known producer of Shiraz and the Barossan is one of the labels which takes grapes from different parts of the Barossa Valley. It is listed at $21.99 but I have seen it go on sale for $18.99.
Until next time, happy drinking!
