Always watch your possessions

Re: "Looking for lost laptop," Letters, April 11.

Cesar Balce is absolutely right. The library is a public place like any other, and people should never leave their valuables (laptops, purses, cell phones) unattended for even a moment.

That's all the time it takes a practiced thief to steal things and be gone.

While library staff do their best to patrol the stacks and seating areas, they can't be everywhere at once. They do, however, proactively speak to customers on an ongoing basis, reminding them to watch their belongings at all times.

Even though the library has tripled our anti-theft signage over the past month and signs are posted all over the library, unfortunately theft still happens.

So please, always keep your valuables with you at all times. And if you see any suspicious behaviour, please report it to library staff right away.
