Two more suspects — including a 17-year-old boy — have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after a shooting in Toronto's east end last month left two people dead, police said Tuesday.
Toronto police said officers responded to gunshots heard in the area of Bain Avenue and Logan Avenue around 11:15 p.m. on April 15.
Two males were found with gunshot wounds, police said, and one of them was pronounced dead at the scene while the other victim was later pronounced dead in hospital.
Police have identified the victims as two men, aged 18 and 20, from Toronto.
They said a 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder on May 3, and police later issued Canada-wide arrest warrants for two more suspects.
Both suspects — a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man — were arrested in Barrie, Ont., on Monday and each charged with two counts of first-degree murder, police said.
Det. Paul Shanly said the shooting has caused "great sadness and concern" in the local community.
"Two young lives have been lost to violence and many lives have changed forever," Shanly said at a press conference Tuesday afternoon. "We hope that these arrests offer some reassurance that those responsible are being held accountable."
Shanly did not provide details on the arrests or what kind of relationship, if any, the suspects had with the victims. He said the investigation is ongoing.
Shanly said police are asking anyone with information on the case to contact investigators.
