HAMILTON — Hamilton police say they have charged a man for a deadly crash that killed a 10-year-old girl and her mother last month.

Police say they responded to a multi-vehicle crash in the area of Trinity Church Road and Guyatt Road on the evening of July 6.

They say a vehicle travelling southbound on Trinity Church Road at a high rate of speed crossed the centre line to pass another pickup truck, leading to a head-on collision that injured seven people total.

Police say the child was pronounced dead in hospital while her 30-year-old mother died in hospital just over a week later.

Investigators say a 24-year-old man from Hamilton faces several charges, including impaired driving and speeding at a rate of over 155 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

Police say bail was opposed for the man and that they continue to investigate the crash.
