Update: Young woman loses fight for life after Richmond crash

Police say neither speed nor alcohol believed to be factors in tragic incident involving pedestrian and semi-truck at Garden City Road and Sea Island Way

The young woman taken to hospital after being struck by a semi-truck in Richmond Wednesday afternoon has died of her injuries.

Richmond RCMP issued a release Thursday evening saying that the 27-year-old had passed away.

Police added that neither speed nor alcohol were being considered as part of the investigation.

Shortly after 2 p.m that day, Richmond RCMP responded to the area of Garden City Road and Sea Island Way after receiving reports of a pedestrian being struck.

Police say she was hit by a “semi-tractor power unit” before being rushed to hospital.

The Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit (RSU) has taken the lead in the investigation and will be assisted by the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS).
