A woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries, after she was hit by a pick-up truck while sitting on a bench on Steveston boardwalk.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the driver of a white Ford truck allegedly lost control of the vehicle after colliding with a pole near the area adjacent to Sockeye City Restaurant.

A 41-year old woman from Richmond was understood to be sitting on a bench near the pole at the time of the collision.

The driver, an 81-year old man from Burnaby, remained at the scene and cooperative with police.

Driver error is believed to be the cause of the collision and police are still investigating.

According to Richmond News reader Mick Lewis, the cream/beige truck had punctures and was badly damaged, possibly having taken out a metal barrier and a bench.
