Two Richmond gas stations are participating in a new program that sees trees planted for every customer that fills up.

The 7-Eleven owned Esso stations at 7991 No 1 Road and 9100 Westminster Highway have partnered with Tree Canada to see trees planted when customers purchase fuel.

“They just fill up their tanks and we’ll do what it takes to offset some of the carbon emissions,” said 7-Eleven Canada director, Nick Angelo Sr. “We’ll invest the funds, not only in planting trees, but also in some of the great approved programs such as solar, wind and recovery of landfill gases.”

7-Eleven’s Richmond locations are piloting the new program that sees investments made into reforestation and other green initiatives for every litre of fuel purchased. They aim to plant 20,000 trees by October, 2019.
