A one-alarm fire has damaged Steveston’s Little Mexico Cantina and Mega Sushi on Chatham Street.
Near 8 a.m. Tuesday morning Richmond Fire Rescue responded to the Mexican restaurant to find a fire in the back of the building.
Acting deputy fire chief Jack Beetstra told the Richmond News no one was injured in the blaze however four households above the restaurant have been evacuated and families are staying in a nearby hotel thanks to emergency social services.
Beetstra said the cause of the fire is under investigation. He said the damage appears to be such that the restaurant will not be able to open for some time.
Meanwhile, Mega Sushi next door, which shares a wall with the cantina, had smoke damage, said Beetstra.
