A new residential-commercial development might include 21 affordable homes in Richmond's city centre.

Twenty-one affordable homes are being proposed in Richmond's city centre on Alderbridge Way – close to Minoru Boulevard - as a part of a residential-commercial development on the Morgan Furniture site.

The proposed affordable housing agreement would result in five three-bedroom units with a maximum rent of $1,480 per month, nine two-bedroom units with rents at $1,218 per month and seven one-bedroom units at $975 per month.

Part of the proposed agreement for 7811 Alderbridge Way sets out the maximum household income of those living in the affordable units.

The agreement would come with stipulations of no age limit and shared access to all amenities in the complex.

The residential development will have 368 residential units in total. The 21 affordable units represent five per cent of the total floor area.

The housing agreement will be dealt with at the first council planning meeting of 2020, on Jan. 8.
