NHL suspends Penguins star Malkin four games for cross-checking Preds D Borowiecki

NEW YORK — The NHL has suspended Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin four games for cross-checking Nashville Predators defenseman Mark Borowiecki.

NEW YORK — The NHL has suspended Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin four games for cross-checking Nashville Predators defenseman Mark Borowiecki.

The incident occurred at the end of the second period of Pittsburgh's 3-2 overtime win over Nashville on Sunday. 

Malkin was assessed a four-minute double minor after he struck Borowiecki in the face with his stick, drawing blood. 

The suspension will cost Malkin US$190,000.

Malkin, who has 17 goals and 20 assists in 37 games this season, will be eligible to return April 23 when the Penguins visit Detroit.

Pittsburgh next plays the Islanders on Tuesday in New York.
