Richmond FC Wolves are looking to bring down the curtain on their run through youth soccer in style.

The U18 boys team has opened up B.C. Coastal Soccer League Cup Division One Group 2 play with wins over Port Moody (2-1) and KLM (3-1). Playdowns will continue in the six-team pool with the top two finishers squaring off in the cup final.

The Wolves finished sixth in the Division One East Pool regular season standings with a 4-8-0 record but four of those losses were by just one goal. That level of competitiveness has carried over into cup play with the promising results out of the gate.

The victory over KLM saw Richmond rally back from a 1-0 deficit. Jake Hothi converted a penalty to tie the match after Corey Scott’s apparent equalizer was disallowed for an offside infraction.

The Wolves then capitalized on a couple of miscues to produce a pair of second half goals.

The win against Port Moody saw Miedy Lui earn Man of the Match honours.

The Wolves will briefly turn their attention to B.C. Soccer’s Coastal “B” Cup playdowns when they battle Division Two side Richmond FC Cyclones for city bragging rights this weekend. The winner will move onto the round of 16 in early April.

The boys are coached by Ken Glasspool.
