Two 10-year-old boys from Richmond will play in one of Canada's prestigious hockey tournaments.

Richmond's Cruz Bui and Sabien Ross are among the hockey players selected to represent Team B.C. in the 2024 Brick Invitational Hockey Tournament this summer.

From July 1 to 7, nine and 10-year-old hockey players from across North America will gather at the West Edmonton Mall Ice Palace to compete for the title of Brick Champion in the invite-only hockey tournament.

Thinh Bui, Cruz Bui's father, told the Richmond News both Richmond athletes were tapped as defensemen for the team around late February.

Brick, the furniture store, runs the well-known hockey tournament that has been going on for around 20 years.

"It's pretty much the best kids in each province kind of coming in and battling for the trophy," he explained, adding he was "super proud" of his son.

When asked how the two boys felt when they got their invitation, Ross was full of thanks for the opportunity.

"I couldn't believe it," he said.

Meanwhile, Cruz said he was super excited when he got the call from the coach.

"I was smiling all night and even when I was sleeping," said Cruz.
