The Richmond Sockeyes will be riding a three-game win streak into 2020.
The Pacific Junior Hockey League club concluded the year on a high note with a 2-0 victory over the Abbotsford Pilots last Friday night. Mattias Hohlweg’s first period goal was all the visitors would need as they dominated the Pilots from start to finish, enjoying a 45-15 advantage in the shot department.
Michael Araki-Young added a second period insurance goal while Braedy Euerby picked up his first shutout as a Sockeye.
The result came 24 hours after Richmond pull away for a 7-3 win over the Port Moody Panthers at Minoru Arenas. Third period goals by Noah Kelly, Ryan Watson, Araki-Young and affiliate Jason Lin broke a 3-3 deadlock after 40 minutes.
Ryleigh Anderson, Jack McMillan and Araki-Young had the earlier goals.
Richmond (20-8-1-4) is now just two points back of Grandview (21-10-2-2) for second place in the Tom Shaw Conference with a couple of games in hand.
Richmond returns to action when Minoru hosts the PJHL Winter Classic, Jan. 3-5. Richmond takes on Abbotsford on the Friday and closes out the showcase against North Vancouver on Sunday. Both games start at 7 p.m.
