Richmond's Tyler Thorpe has joined the Vancouver Giants.

Seventeen-year-old Richmond resident, Tyler Thorpe, signed to the Vancouver Giants earlier this week.

Barclay Parneta, general manager of the Giants, announced the news on Thursday in a media release.

“Tyler will be an excellent addition to the group that we have,” Parneta said.

Last season, Thorpe was with the Richmond Sockeyes, where he totaled 17 points in 33 games in the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

The forward player then started the current hockey season with the Langley Rivermen, a British Columbia Hockey League team, before getting scooped up by the Giants.

Thursday night marked The Giants' first stop on the road, where they won 2-1 in Edmonton against the Oil Kings.

The victory was Giants head coach, Michael Dyck’s 250th WHL career win, as confirmed by the Vancouver Giants Twitter page.

The Vancouver team will continue on the road, with another game Friday night in Red Deer where they face the undefeated Red Deer Rebels. Sunday night will be their following game against the Calgary Hitmen.
