It was a familiar name atop the leaderboard at the Future Links Acura Pacific Championship at the Pitt Meadows Golf Club.
Richmond’s Michael Crisologo fired an impressive 66 in the final round and went on to capture the boys division of the Golf Canada-sanctioned event in a playoff over Quebec’s Laurent Desmarchais.
Crisologo’s older brother Chris is a member of the Canadian Amateur Men’s Team who is coming off an outstanding collegiate career at Simon Fraser University. That’s where Michael is headed after graduating from Vancouver College in June.
He outlasted Desmarchais thanks to a birdie on the opening hole of the playoff. The boys field featured 85 players.
“I’m super excited, I can’t really put it into words right now,” said Michael who opened the tournament with rounds of 72-70. “[My family] watched me through all 18 holes, and it was good to have that support.”
The victory earns him an exemption into the 2019 Canadian Junior Boys Championship, slated for Aug. 11-15 in New Brunswick.
Other Richmond players included Brycen Ko finishing tied for 25th (75-73-77) while Mackenzie Bickell (81-78-72) and Sangvin Kang (79-73-80) were 45th and 47th respectively.
The girls’ division was won 13-year-old Lauren Kim from Surrey with rounds of 73-67-70. Richmond’s Sherri Chang was 21st (73-80-85).
