Jordan Gilles has been recognized for his leading role in the Nanaimo Timbermen advancing to the Western Lacrosse Association playoffs for the first time in 11 years.
The 23-year-old defender from Richmond was named to the WLA Second All-Star Team on Tuesday. He was joined by teammate Chase Fraser, while Drew Belgrave earned First Team honours.
The Timbermen reached the post-season with a 10-7-1 record — good enough for third place. They were eventually eliminated in the semi-finals by Island rival Victoria in five games.
Even as a defender, Gilles has always been dangerous in transition thanks to his excellent speed. He posted 14 points in as many regular season games and added four assists in the playoffs.
He was originally Nanaimo’s first round pick — sixth overall — in the 2016 WLA Draft after a standout junior career in Coquitlam and Delta.
When the McMath graduate isn’t playing in the summer in the WLA, he is a fixture with the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League. He will be heading back to Denver for his fourth season later this year. He is coming off a career best 87 in loose balls while producing three goals and five assists in 18 games.
