Photos: Little League nationals heating up in Richmond

Young baseball players in Canada are vying for a chance to qualify for the Intermediate World Series in California.

Talented young baseball players from all over Canada have gathered in Richmond to battle it out in the nine-day long Canadian Intermediate Little League Championships.

Host team District 6 Little League Battalion, made up of players from Hastings, Trout Lake, Richmond, New Westminster and South Vancouver, is being joined by seven teams across the country at Palmer Baseball Complex.

The 13-year-old Canadian championships started on July 16 and will conclude with semi-finals and finals on Monday and Tuesday respectively. It will serve as a qualifier for the Intermediate World Series set to take place in California.

Team Battalion beat Alberta’s Team Lethbridge 7-5 on Thursday and is set to play Ontario’s Ancaster Diamondbacks on Friday, followed by a game against Atlantic Canada’s Cape Breton Ramblers on Saturday.

It is currently ranking second behind the B.C. Firebirds with three wins and one loss, on track to play in Monday’s quarterfinals.
