The Richmond based Pacific Ravens are off to an impressive start in the B.C. Female Midget AAA Hockey League, winning four games last weekend.

Looking to secure a berth in the Macs Tournament in Calgary during the holiday season, the Ravens took one big step closer with their sweep at the Surrey Sport and Leisure Centre.

They opened with a 5-2 win over the Thompson Ravens thanks to four unanswered goals in the final period. Trailing 2-1, defenceman Meghan Fisher tied the game on a slap shot from the point. Myah Olleck would add the go-ahead goal a short time later and a pair from Dayna Briggs capped the comeback. Amina Ida had the other goal, while Kira Richardson had a strong game between the pipes.

The Ravens were then engaged in a defensive struggle with the Kootenay Wildcats on Saturday morning. The game remained scoreless until the third period when affiliate player Nicole Vukasovic put the Ravens in front on a wraparound goal. It took the Wildcats just eight seconds to equalize.

The game winner came with eight minutes remaining as Ailea McMurty scored on a partial breakaway. The Ravens went on to post a 3-1 victory. Kaylee Styles played a strong game in the goal.

In the Ravens third game, held Saturday afternoon, they came up against the Prince George Cougars. This game saw the locals quick on the scoreboard with goals from Kaely McMurty and Shalisa Haggard.

The Ravens took a 2-1 lead into the third period when they broke the game open.

Kim Theodoric scored on a slapshot to the top left hand corner. With very little time on the clock, Tatianna Haggard fired home another to make it 4-1. Olleck then added an empty netter.

The final game of the week proved to be the biggest test against defending champions Fraser Valley Phantoms.

Thanks to some terrific goaltending at both ends of the rink, the game was scoreless until late in the third period.

With just 10 seconds left, Nicole Howlett took a hard shot which rebounded to Fisher. Her attempt was stopped but Haggard made no mistake on another rebound to give her team a dramatic win. Styles played an amazing game in goal to earn the shutout.

The Ravens will now prepare for a pair of games in Prince George against the Cougars, Oct. 27-28. Their next game at the Richmond Olympic Oval is Nov. 17 against Thompson Okanagan.
