MacNeill senior boys progress to basketball BCs, girls bow out

The boys finished second at the South Frasers last week, while the girls placed 14th at their provincials

The MacNeill Ravens seniors boys basketball team are off to the provincials at the Langley Events Centre this week.

The team finished second at the South Fraser regional finals last week to qualify for the big provincial tournament.

Meanwhile, the Ravens’ senior girls basketball team battled hard to finish 14th at their provincials last week in the 2A category.

However, according to the girls’ coach, Justin Dy-Pe, notable performances came from Kim Tiu (49 points) in an overtime loss to Fernie (73-78) and a 41-point performance in a win vs St Patrick (81-59).

Also, senior guard Shila Rasoul contributed a triple double in the win against St. Pats, with Shila bagging 28 points from 16 rebounds and 11 assists.

Although it was “not the finish we were hoping for,” Dy-Pe said there were “lots of accomplishments for the team this year - making it back to the provincials.

“Kim Tiu and Shila Rasoul has been leading the way for us, while juniors Hanna Mann and Tanvir Patara have been awesome in playing the support roles. Our girls program has come so far.

“A large part of that success has been because of our two graduating seniors, Kim and Shila. They were able to put MacNeill’s girls basketball program on the map.”
