Rookie Liam Lawson scored with 4: 47 remaining to lift the Richmond Sockeyes to a 5-3 victory over the North Delta Devils in Pacific International Junior Hockey League action on Saturday night.

The 16-year-old from Vancouver converted a pass from veteran Rudi Thorsteinson to break a 3-3 deadlock. Justin White provided some insurance with a power play goal in the final minute of play.

Scott Wessa, Jeremy Hamaguchi and Daniel Tait also scored for the Sockeyes who improved to 13-4-1 on the season.

Richmond was coming off a 3-0 home ice loss to the league-leading Delta Ice Hawks. The game was scoreless until Delta scored on a penalty shot in the third period and went on to victory.

The Sockeyes hosted Ridge Meadows last night and enjoy a week off before North Delta comes to Minoru next Thursday at 7: 30 p.m.

Icing... The Sockeyes bolstered their blueline on Wednesday by acquiring local product Adam Nishi from the Devils for future considerations. The 19-year-old should provide some offensive punch from the back end after compiling 26 points in 44 games, including 11 goals, last season.
