Kajaks athletes make the podium at nationals in Quebec

Despite the hot and humid conditions and adjusting to the time difference, the Richmond-based athletes competed well

Kajaks Track and Field athletes made the long journey to Sherbrooke, QC recently for the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships, considered the nationals for competitors aged U16 and U18.

Despite the hot and humid conditions and adjusting to the time difference, the Richmond-based athletes competed well, with the majority making the podium.

The Kajaks results were:

Levi Turra:  U18  High Jump 1st;

Lawrence Man: U16 Hammer Throw 1st;

Aidan Turner: U18 Decathlon 2nd and U18  4x400m relay 1st.

Aidan set four legion records in the decathlon 100m, long jump, pole vault and discus. He was also honoured to be chosen to take the Athletes Oath in the opening ceremonies;

Deven Marrero:  U18 Javelin 3rd (PB) and U18 Hammer Throw 3rd (PB);

Elise Drake:  U18 Hammer Throw 2nd and U18 Shot Put 5th;

Sofia Varma-Vitug: U16 Triple Jump 7th and U16 Long Jump 14th;

Logan Duley: U18 100m 8th;

Chase Longley: U16 Hammer Throw 4th and U16 Discus  6th.
