Travis Hamberger had 36 points in McMath's 81-73 win over the Steveston-London Sharks on Wednesday night.

It was a pivotal night in the Richmond Senior Boys Basketball League that might have determined MVP honours too.

The McMath Wildcats are in the driver’s seat for a first place finish after their 81-73 home floor victory over the Steveston-London Sharks on Wednesday.

The Wildcats (5-1) can now secure top spot with wins over RC Palmer (1-5), Cambie (4-2) and Burnett (1-5) in their final three games. They can also thank the Richmond Colts (5-1) who were busy on Wednesday handing the MacNeill Ravens (5-2) a 92-83 loss.

That leaves the Colts, Sharks and Wildcats with the same records but McMath would get the nod based on wins in both head-to-head games. Steveston-London will host Richmond High on Wednesday with the winner locking down the No. 2 seed.

It was another big night for the Wildcats’ Travis Hamberger who poured in 36 points, including six three-pointers. The Grade 11 guard helped his team with 11 points in the third quarter and another nine in the final 10 minutes. Mike Kitka added 16 while Steveston-London was led by the 26 point performance of Jalen Johal. Jhnoelle Vergara added 21.

Head-to-head games between MacNeill, Cambie and Hugh Boyd will determine the fourth through sixth seeds for the city championships. The McNair Marlins and RC Palmer Griffins will round out the field of teams.

Boyd will be hosting the Richmond playoffs.
