UFC heavweight Arjan Bhullar is looking forward to continuing the “process” of building towards a championship bout after his victory at UFC Fight Night 138 in Moncton, NB last weekend.
The 32-year-old from Richmond recorded unanimous decision over Brazil’s Marcelo Golm. He was a point better on two of the judges’ scorecards (29-28) and was 29-27 ahead on the other. It was a bounce back performance after a loss to Poland’s Adam Wieczorek back in April.
Bhullar would love to be part of UFC 231 in Toronto next month but that’s too soon after his Moncton win.
Instead, he will allow organizers and his management team to determine what step is next in his career while he gets back to work —including time at the renowned American Kickboxing Academy (AKA). The stable of fighters at the San Jose, CA gym include current UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cromier and lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“Let them figure it out and I will be in the gym with my coaches every day,” said Bhullar in a post-fight press conference. “The only reason I am in this sport is to be a champion. I look to excel at everything I do and that’s what drives me. That’s our goal is to get one step closer to do that.
“Certain markets like Toronto, the UK, Vancouver and spots in California. That’s what excites me. But really, I’m just not looking beyond anything.”
Bhullar gave up height and weight to his younger opponent but took control, especially in the final round.
“We had a good game plan of pressuring him. Mixing up our strikes with our takedowns. He has made some adjustments and improvements but we were comfortable the whole time,” added Bhullar.
“We dominated going forward and all the judges gave it to us. It was good for things to build on and things to be happy about. “
