Vancouver Police say a woman has been charged for the death of a 16-month-old baby in 2017, following a police investigation.

In a release, police write that 16-month-old Macallan Saini tragically died at an unlicensed and unregistered daycare in East Vancouver in 2017.

Police were called to a residence in the area of Commercial Drive and Kitchener Street after receiving a report of a death of a child. Saini was found unresponsive in the playpen.

“The details of this file are just gut-wrenching,” says Constable Tania Visintin, VPD. “Investigators have worked diligently since this terrible incident occurred to ensure the person accused would be held responsible.”

Susy Yasmine Saad, 41, appeared in court yesterday where she was charged with two counts of ‘failure to provide necessaries of life’ and one count of fraud over $5,000.00.

“As nothing can take away the pain of losing a child, we hope the family can find some closure knowing that charges have been laid,” adds Visintin.

Saad has been released on conditions and will appear in court in September.
