Saturday Residents and visitors are invited to get a behind-the-scenes look at what keeps Richmond running smoothly at the annual City of Richmond Engineering and Public Works Open House on Saturday, May 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the City Operations Yard, 5599 Lynas Lane. Come out and enjoy the many activities available for all ages. Not only can kids play on heavy, real-life equipment and stick their hands in a Lafarge cement display, there will also be facepainting, live entertainment from the Urban Dance Company, a Show and Shine classic car show and interactive emergency, police, fire and ambulance displays.

The East Richmond Community Association and Cambie Community Centre will be hosting their fifth annual Spring Swap Meet. The event will raise funds to support centre programming. New and gently used items will be on sale at this 52-table event. The 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. event is free for shoppers who can expect to find lots of bargains including clothing, toys, household and sporting items and books. There will also be a fundraising bake sale and concession that directly supports the centre. We encourage the community to visit our Swap Meet to help support the Cambie Community Centre. Admission is free though donations are accepted.

Steveston United Church will host its annual Upscale Garage/Plant/Bake Sale Saturday, May 2, 10:00 a.m.-noon at Steveston United Church, 3720 Broadway Street at 2nd Avenue in Steveston.

Monday Richmond Public Library will be hosting the six-week program "Chronic Disease Self-Management" in English on Mondays from May 5 -June 16 from 1:00 -3:30 p.m. The same program will also be offered in Mandarin beginning Thursdays from May 8 -June 12 from 9:30 am -12 p.m.. Both programs will take place at the Brighouse (Main) Branch in the 2nd floor community place, 7700 Minoru Gate.
