A local group is launching a new website service called Richmond Rental Connect to address the growing cost and decreasing supply of rental accommodations in the city.
Piloted by the Richmond Poverty Response Committee (RPRC), the project is building a made in Richmond solution to the citys continuing rental housing crunch.
The website will feature information resources, news, and, eventually, an online registry to connect tenants with landlords.
Richmond has the most expensive housing rates in North America, said De Whalen, co-chair of the RPRC.
We need to tackle this problem immediately by creating more rental stock.
The best way to do that is by creating more secondary suites.
To celebrate the launch of the website, RPRC is hosting an evening of networking and free food on Wednesday, June 20.
The event will feature a walkthrough of the new website and a presentation from Marg Gordon, CEO of the BC Apartment Owners and Managers Association.
Over the last several months we have meet with landlords, homeowners, and tenants about their concerns, ideas, and thoughts about affordable housing in Richmond, added Whalen.
This launch event is the culmination of the feedback we received, and the website is designed to meet the needs participants identified.
Wednesdays event will be held 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate.
