A broken water main between Sea Island and Capstan Way shut down No. 3 Road Thursday evening.
Richmond RCMP sent out an advisory telling people to avoid the area.
At around 6:30 p.m., they said the closure was expected to last between two and three hours as city crews cleaned up.
They asked drivers to avoid the area and plan an alternate route.
