Walmart recalls tainted ground beef

Product contaminated with E. coli
Walmart beef recalled
Walmart beef recalled on Monday Dec.1, 2014.

Richmond residents who ventured to a nearby Walmart and bought ground beef are being advised to not consume the meat and return it to the store or throw it in the garbage.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalled beef from all Western Canada Walmart stores on Monday.

It's believed the meat — distributed by Cargill Meat Solutions — is contaminated with E. coli bacteria, which can cause stomach and intestinal illness in mild cases and organ failure and death in the most severe ones.

The nearest Walmart to Richmond is in Queensborough, which is New Westminster proper but nonetheless on Lulu Island.
