A major police incident led to sections of Richmond city centre being cordoned off last night.

Around 7:30 p.m., residents in the area of Eckersley Road – close to Cook Road and Granville Avenue – reported on social media hearing sirens, a voice on a P.A. systems and loud bangs.

Videos posted on social media show heavily armed police, including an armoured vehicle, surrounding a detached property.

In a second video a loud bang can be heard, however it's not clear if that came from the residence or from the police.

Witnesses said they also noticed someone in the neighbourhood being led away in handcuffs.

The vicinity was sealed off by Richmond RCMP shortly afterwards, with no traffic being allowed in or out until around 8:30 p.m.

The Richmond News reached out to police last night and was told this morning that an arrest was made as part of an “ongoing investigation into a residential” break and enter.

They were unable to provide further details at this time.
