The 19-year-old from Steveston said he drew inspiration for the video – which was shot in his building’s parking garage – from his NBA hero Kyrie Irving, who has performed similar tricks.

“It’s still blowing up,” Fuentes said of his most recent viral video.

“Some other (basketball) players put the balls in plastic bags to make it more challenging to grip.”

Fuentes, who went to McMath secondary on Grades 9 and 10 before going to school in the U.S., is now studying online at a college in California.

But it’s not the first time Fuentes has found some fame, having featured for his basketball skills on CTV’s Perry’s Prospects when he was 10.

“I do lots of entertainment stuff to try to inspire as many people as I can,” added Fuentes.
