A 54-year-old woman facing charges in the death of her husband at their home in Halfmoon Bay will be back in court Sept. 4.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is heading the investigation into the death of Max Fischer, 79, with assistance from Sunshine Coast RCMP.
IHIT said a call from neighbours around 9 p.m. Aug. 21 brought emergency responders to the home in the 10900 block of the Sunshine Coast Highway, where Fischer was found dead.
“[The] emergency responders found suspicious injuries on Mr. Fischer,” according to Sgt. Frank Jang of IHIT.
Jang said Karin Fischer was arrested shortly afterwards and charged with second-degree murder on Aug. 22.
“Investigators quickly determined that this was an isolated incident and there was no risk to public safety. Mr. Fischer’s family was notified of his death and victim services was engaged to provide support,” Jang said.
No other details have been released, but court records indicate the crime was alleged to have taken place Aug. 19, two days before the discovery of Fischer’s body.
Police have since confirmed that Karin Fischer, who remains in custody at the Alouette Correctional Centre in Maple Ridge, was arrested at the couple’s home.
Fischer made her first court appearance Aug. 23 in Sechelt.
The case was adjourned to Aug. 28 to allow Fischer to consult legal council and then re-scheduled to Sept. 4 for the same reason.
The Fischers are German citizens and Karin Fischer has requested a German interpreter for her court appearance, which will be via video link.
The investigation continues and RCMP are asking anyone with information who hasn’t yet to come forward to police to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-4448 or by email at [email protected], or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
